After all the buzz,I couldn't wait to try the NEW Community Table restaurant on Rt.202 in Washington. Having watched the pain staking muti year renovation on my daily drives to Washington Mostessori, I was wow-ed by what they have acheived. Its certainly the "coolest" interior of anyrestaurant in the area. Well, I've been twice and have to say,the food isGREAT!We weren't sure how we felt about being seated at the "community table," amassive black-walnut table seating 12, but, aftersitting down besideConan O'Brien and some other delightful people, we decided to embrace the concept and wound up having a great time.
I still think the no reservation policy is a tough sell around here with long drives from neighboring towns and no guarantee of getting a seat...(Not to mention,no cell service to call around to other restaurants if the wait is too long). Once the buzz wears off, I hope they will change this policy (as does everybody else I have spoke to about it). That said, we didn't have to wait too long ineither case and the food was worth it.
The small, ever-changingmenu provides an opportunity to eat outside your normal range - I tried some things I normally wouldn't have and they wereexcellent.Eating local, fresh food is certainly one of the joys of living in the Litchfield Hills!
